The World Solar Challenge of 2015 will start tomorrow with a qualification session. On Sunday, the teams will depart in Darwin for their journey to Adelaide. Today we present you the different classes of vehicles that participate in the race. Smaller vehicles that carry only one driver participate in the Challenger Class. the Challenger Class teams have to travel the full lenght of the race with only one charge of their battery. The energy needed to power the entire trip is obviously provided by solar power. In the Cruiser Class, the driver is accompanied by a passenger. The participants in this class are timed in two stages. First they navigate from Darwin to Alice Springs, where they can recharge their batteries. Then they continue to the finish line in Adelaide. Finally, there is the Adventure class which only has 3 participants. This class allows cars built for previous editions of the event to run again, usually with new team members. It can also be used as a catchment for those who, while meeting the exacting safety standards, may not have quite made full compliance with the latest requirements.
